History & Heritage

Where it all began

The name Miko is inspired by the native Nikau palm—an iconic feature of the Auckland Botanic Gardens. In Māori tradition, the Nikau’s young shoot, the miko, was treasured for its nourishing and healing properties. At Café Miko, we honour this legacy through wholesome, welcoming food that reflects our connection to the land—offering a peaceful pause for all who visit.
